I'm far too old to have gotten into them through the Replacements, but I can safely say I discovered the power of the Mats due to "Alex Chilton."

Well, I'm not gonna flame you, but I really only agree on Loaded. The presence of Lonesome Cowboy Bill really pulls down the second half of that album before it is redeemed by Oh Sweet Nuthin.
I love Nico's first 4 lps, so I can't agree with "too much Nico."
The live recording from Live 69 and The Quine Tapes reveal…
Tom McGuane directed his own novel for 92 in the shade! Agreed on the kudos for Warren Oates as Nichol Dance.
*****
Oh, and AV Club - Warren Oates: I was wondering in a previous post if you'd ever seen Hellman's Ride in the Whirlwind and The Shooting. Now I guess I know.
After hearing those first 2 lps, I pulled out my old Cry Like a Baby LP to verify that Alex Chilton was indeed the Boxtops singer. The voices were so completely different. Then I got the Singer Not the Song EP and was floored to find out Chilton solo sounded so little like his other two classic bands.
Good description, Chartex, of one of my favorite songs. I lucked into Big Star in the mid-70s (record store friends out of High fidelity mode, thanks) and always preferred Radio City to #1 Record.
O My Soul is fantastic, and Andrew Ace Rogers posted a great tab for it in the old OLGA days.
As a Detroiter, I'm partial to the Motown "Map of Detroit" logo, but that finger snapping logo is the best ever.
Good review on the other site, Lone Tom. Feel free to effuse…
Can't Wait
I like what I've heard so far from this album, but I am really looking forward to the skirmishes to come in the comments section. Noel seemed to hit it quick and get out of the way (and I don't blame him).
I found my way to Arcade Fire thanks to the folks on this site. Keep on keeping on.
Call Me Lightning
I Can't Reach You
I'm One
Kids are Alright
Baby Don't You Do It (w/Leslie West on 2nd lead!)
********
And of course, My Generation, Baba O'Riley, Pinball Wizard… all the radio hits.
Strangest first date: Last Tango in Paris. It was alright.
I've got to put Once Upon a Time and Wild Bunch at the top of my list.
On another note, ever seen the two Monte Hellman westerns shot for Roger Corman: Ride Into the Whirlwind and The Shooting? They're not in line for "The Greatest" anything, but they're like art-film/drive-in films. Sort of Carnival of Souls…
Been Waiting for This!
Davy Scatino's arc, from Frank Sinatra Jr's card game to losing the family SUV to Meadow, just pains me. This is where my wife decided I could watch the series on my own, thank you very much.
Well written, Noel, and well thought out.
Hunweasel made me laugh. +5!
You know it!
Mick Jones avatar! If you're in The Crown tonight, Lobsters, have a drink on me.
Michael Bay's former AD is my new favorite poster. Register it, keep going, and hopefully Tarkovsky dude will explode.
Big Star
I bought Radio City lp before I found #1 Record, and enjoyed the hell out of the first side. When "You Get What You Deserve" finished, I replayed it a dozen times before listening to side 2. I don't remember who broke my heart (Or other body part) to inspire my melancholy hate/love, but that song captured…
Agreed. I grew up a couple miles from where the show was set, making it resonate even more for me than perhaps it otherwise would have. The episode "The Garage Door" has Neal finding out his father's dirty secret — he's having an affair. Brought back memories of sitting on curbs, sniffling, and doubting the words…
Split7inch (great avatar, by the way): I get the EP reference, but what did FMF hold to that was controversial? Not arguing here, but I don't recall any similar fascist tendencies from Ford.
I'm not like everybody else.
