That part where Kim Novak writes the letter explaining the (already pretty obvious) plot twists and then throws the letter away is perhaps the worst scene I've ever seen in a professionally made movie. 

Just a show?  Hardly.  It is perfection in television format, and there's no way that the exact same actors in the exact same setting could ever create something worth watching.
