Single Female Lawyer…
…lassoing her clients…

When I first realized that the same man had written "One," "Coconut," the music for "Popeye" and "The Point," and had sung "Everybody's Talking," I was reminded of Homer Simpson's response when told that bacon, ham, and pork chops all came from the same animal: "Yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal." Which

@King Bastard: But shouldn't you be on the Botany Bay?

I'm much more impressed that The Simpsons invented the word "yoink."

Bender Newberry III
If only it were Bender Bending Rodriguez.

It's a pornography store. I was buying pornography.

Now go home and get your fockin' shinebox.

The Singular Adventures of the Style Council was one of my favorite albums in high school. Particularly strong tracks include "Speak Like a Child," "Have You Ever Had it Blue," "You're the Best Thing," and the above-mentioned "Solid Bond in Your Heart." Hearing these songs again really takes me back.

Rule 34
I'm curious to know if Internet Rule 34 applies to this, but I'm also afraid to find out.

To read this letter is to be a whale touched at the place of its own essence. (With apologies to Nicole Krauss.)

My favorite quote from Sinatra at the Sands:

And yet, even at more than three hours long, it somehow doesn't mention that its original star was fired a week

Although there appears to be some confusion about this:

For some reason, I love this line from Wikipedia:

So, where's Firefly?

@DD: Yep, that's the one. (Apparently Lynch originally wanted to use "Song to the Siren" by This Mortal Coil, but they couldn't afford the rights, so he got Badalamenti to write something similar.)

Look, "Mostly Madrigals!" Yeah, that might be good…

Julee Cruise
She's best known for singing the theme from Twin Peaks, but the two albums that Lynch co-wrote and produced for her (along with his favorite composer, Angelo Badalamenti) are awesome, especially the first one. In particular, "Mysteries of Love," which plays over the closing scenes of Blue Velvet, is

Vince Gilligan
In some ways I'm more impressed by Gilligan at his best (in "Pusher" and "Paper Hearts," especially) than I am by Darin Morgan, who is generally considered his only serious competition for the X-Files writing crown. Morgan's episodes are high concept, distinctive in structure, and so ambitious that they
