Wow. I am so surprised that the reviewer and so many commenters loved this! A lot of flaws and it was just kind of dull all around, I thought. It felt like they're jamming it too full of stuff so it's not just a conventional Dracula story without really examining whether the conventional Dracula story NEEDS more.

I'm not a scholar, just a reader of Victorian-era novels and I couldn't believe the long, open-mouthed kissing between Mina and Jonathan in public. More than once. I think it would be improper for even a married couple at that time to do that. I just hate when period shows transplant sexual attitudes of today onto

Thank you! I read a preview of Children of Night and liked it so I may give it a try.

Dang, Summer of Night was one I thought I might try reading. I did read A Winter Haunting which is apparently a pseudo-sequel (didn't know that at the time) and it was just okay. It kind of wasn't good enough to get upset about any flaws. Just kind of middle of the road all around.

oh yes, I can understand the decision to kill him, definitely, but man, I was sobbing over it. And t did drag afterwards, which could have been my grief talking, but it just seemed almost like the start of another book afterwards—all the momentum from the raid and Gentry's death is lost and we're in Israel,

I couldn't even make it through Drood. Just…very dull, didn't grab my attention. Dan Simmons has an iffy track record for me. I really loved The Terror, flaws and all. And I loved Carrion Comfort until ***SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER*** Bobby Joe Gentry died. Then the rest of the book was kinda dead for me and it went

Me too!

oh man, try using "Yeah! BOOKS!" in everyday life like I do, it's even worse.

Corner Gas was also my first thought, while it seems most non-Canadians thought of the Simpsons first.

What about Sherlock?  It was nominated for Emmys and Golden Globes.  Is it affiliated with a US company?  A quick search said no but it was a pretty quick search as I'm at workgottago

If each episode you saw was only an hour, then yes, you Americans have probably missed quite a bit.  I'm in Canada and each episode was an hour and 15 minutes (with the commercials of course), and I'm so surprised/proud that Showcase didn't cut it for ease of scheduling.  I imagine in most episodes they managed to cut

SERIOUSLY, Pauline Quirke is amazing.  She went from just surly to downright terrifying in an instant.

I believe the Showcase website has the last 2 episodes available to watch

I actually thought the grey blobs were oysters at first and wondered why the HELL those would be in a basket of baking ingredients. althought it would've been funny if Grahame had started rhapsodizing about Walmart's premium choice oysters!!

I know!  They're all like "huh. we're in a dome." and then go about their business as usual.  There was a scene where I think Julia was walking with someone, maybe Barbie, don't remember, but in the back ground you see an older couple strolling and it really brought home the lack of urgency and excitement in this

Angie's boss is a she, and she was complaining that she was overworked because the diner's been so busy and her employee hasn't shown up in a couple of days.  Soooo…that's why she cares.

I thought it was funny that Angie's boss also doesn't wonder where she is.  She just grumbles that she "used to have this girl Angie helping out at the lunch shift but she hasn't shown up since the dome came down".  And yet she and everyone else who hears her say that doesn't think for a second that maybe Angie's in

Yes!  I was thinking the same thing last night.  I'm waiting for that kid to discover an error in his calculation and realize it's not actually a dome, it's a big squiggly shape that morphs whenever they need somebody's house to be right up against the dome.

The news about Philip Seymour Hoffman being cast in Child 44 made me finally pick up the 3rd book in the trilogy, Agent 6, by Tom Rob Smith.  I have literally only read the first chapter but it's good so far.  I loved Child 44 but was less enamored with the 2nd book, The Secret Speech.  Hoping Agent 6 is a good end to

no problem.  I suppose any concert can have that one crazy fan who wants to feel like they're 14 again.
