That is weird… I didn't realize it was the only album with 'explicit' lyrics.  As far as the label, wasn't that during the first few years after the PMRC got the industry to use them? It seemed like there for a while they were just putting stickers on every album, just in case someone took minor offense to one of the

I can't tell if you're kidding… although a lot of the country music that comes from OK is the worst kind. Tobey Keith, Reba McIntire, Garth Brooks, that one blond girl, etc.

I think that's pretty accurate. Zaireeka also serves as an interesting/weird bridge into the next period. I went to a couple of the boombox things before that came out, and people were really confused, but also excited about it. It's hard for a band to push into new phases like that…

Ah, dammit! I always forget about them!

Yeah, but I got the impression indie cred is a huge measure of existence in this context, hence the shout-out to Chainsaw Kittens.

BTW, 'Felt Good to Burn' is probably my favorite song on this album. "All summer long/we refused to die/we just slept and fucked/and got high"

"Oklahoma's only band." Huh. Didn't realize they had laid claim to that title.

You should check out the link to the Alvino Rey clip… he hooks the talking pedal steel to a super-scary animatronic guitar.

Cancer. What a shitheel.

Admittedly, I live in an armpit of a radio market. Whenever I've gone to different parts of the country, I've been amazed and saddened at how much better radio is elsewhere. Our economy here is doing pretty well, but culturally it's as edgy as a Jay Leno joke.

@Gjetostbuster:disqus I got into this at work with someone a while back, too. It sounds like we do similar work in technical writing? Anyway, I found somewhere in the Chicago Style Manual where they address that, and yes, you write it how it would sound. The APA blog entry above also addresses it well. It's amazing

I think the 'classic rock' format now encompasses the more commercial songs to come out of Alt Nation™. It's kind of depressing, actually. There's a station in my town that played 'oldies' when I was a kid, which meant the 50s and 60s. Now they play stuff from the 80s and call it oldies.

I have to say I really like this feature in general. I don't always like everything, but there have been a few times I've added stuff to my playlists after hearing them here. For example, Grave Babies are my new favorite band after they were featured here a few weeks ago. Judging from the comments, there's not a lot

"And then he's all, 'Wildcat…. pshoo, pshoo…Wildcat…'

Don't forget that he's a war hawk that wants to surrender 'Merica to those effeminate Europeans…

Well, he's… tryin' to… grow up and do sex with ladies! Instead of being all smooth! Boo! Boo to Justin Bieber and his pubic hair!

I really hate Guitar Center. I think it's more the people that work there, a lot of younger guys who're in crummy bands that they think are days away from 'making it,' so they think everyone who comes in there is somehow a pathetic wannabe. Worse is the older guys who barely even play anymore, but are so used to

That's so weird… I didn't even recognize Orlando. I guess elves get younger the more time goes by in the LOTR universe? So by the time he's helping Aragorn and whosit, he's lost that beefiness around his face.
