It's pretty hard to explain to friends that Jesus Christ Superstar is subversive

U CRAZY

In this thread we will talk about how the original album is pretty good, and how Judas' vocal performance is pretty interesting/exciting for a musical.

I dunno.

I saw it, and it makes the tone and plot seem more interesting, but it still has that stiffness to it's performances.
Maybe it's just because the scenes are in a vacuum. Not that it matters anyway, not everyone needs to see every movie. I'm not here to shit on everyone's parade incessantly.

Everyone in this movie was seemingly carved from wood. Just… lousy looking performances… Not sure why a few of these lines made it into a fucking trailer…

Yeah! It's not like the fellas are opposed to girls playing lead guitar. I just bet that they are often held to a slightly different standard than some dude would be.

Nah, it's cool… and I could be wrong! I just meant that anecdotally, many more young girls seem to idolize pop stars than boys, so it becomes a sort-of numbers game considering that many great guitarists cut their teeth as teens with infinite time to kill.

As a bassist, I think there are a few things to consider…

She was not the first MPDG, but if she was, I'm not entirely convinced thats a demerit against the film. Improbable things can happen in films. People copying the improbable plot of some movie shouldn't be held against that film.

Yeah, I'm curious how far into the dark side she goes…

To be fair, the nuance of her standing up for Jofferey (in regards to the dogs) was elegantly explained to Arya by Ned and she lost something dear to her in the process.
It was a complicated thing for a naive teen to navigate… which was part of the point.

You're right. I guess I do. Yay me.

The sort of vague explanation I got was along the lines of, "Yeah it's hot."

I have a pair of friends who are lesbians, and also really funny/goofy.
I asked about scissoring and was honestly surprised when they were like, "yeah, it's hot"

I know what you mean. I was so sad when I was a kid and realized he was sort of a shitty biggot. He always seemed like "The fun wild and carefree rapper" to my vans shoes wearing mall-punk self.
It doesn't track quite right. Something has always been off about it.

If anyone cares at all (they shouldn't) Kanye is the first rapper I remember as a kid openly talking about how rap had too much homophobia. He talked about how he had a gay cousin who he cared about deeply. This was back in the "Jesus Walks" era.
It excuses nothing (though I don't buy the "Dick than a swallower" has a

I've been told by several old people that the whole thing is greatly exaggerated by people who like to make the past seem more interesting.

As someone who has directed good actors into over-acting (http://www.avclub.com/artic… it's a shame that respected directors always get a pass when fine actors deliver bad performances.

The Alamo Drafthouse doesn't just serve drink. They are also a place to pretty pretty damn good food, go to special showings of classics or quote alongs or midnight movie type stuff along with a general atmosphere that makes going to a movie feel special.
