I would say that this is Cronenberg's Elephant Man, except that I know that he thought that was a major downgrade from Eraserhead, as (in terms of Lynch's unique artistry) indeed it was. So if this is The Elephant Man: Eraserhead Edition, sign me up.

"Cassette Vagina" is the technical term, I believe.

Man, I agree with both of these. Kill Bill 2's like the ultimate mothering fantasy for emotionally immature males (anyone else like the "You're so cool" part of True Romance?), and Babe…well, that's one of those horrible kid's movies about death, isn't it? That smug cat telling Babe of his intended destiny is flat-out

@avclub-e576423831e043f7928d9ac113abbe6f:disqus That would be too specific, though since none of us could probably put a number on his weight, I suppose it's okay, percentage-wise.

something something Woody Allen something something

And that's not even counting the Holy Spirit!

In Fincher's filmography, I think @avclub-131799f66a96ee034181e8a54b4c0b49:disqus 's spot on: this will be placed next to Dragon Tattoo in that it's an extremely shiny, extremely entertaining entertainment machine with not too much on its mind. I like it. But I D'Angelo hasn't quite convinced me that this is anything

This is less embarrassing than the times when I feel jerked around and moved and mad that I'm moved when I know consciously that I'm being jerked around. The prime recent example of this was watching the trailer to Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which we'll all agree was shit, but I teared up to anyway.

@avclub-0d4efaa2c9d1041eb9b8b5319eec8531:disqus Jesus woof. Almighty cripes. That really should not be.

I have to admit, I haven't heard anything that would keep me from watching this movie. When a movie allows itself to be unlikeable, it inadvertently bumps my interest up a notch or two.

Dude, relax. I hear you, although I'm not really on your side because there are few writers I can't stand more than Marilynne Robinson. Also, I think most of us on these boards are wannabe writers, so there's that.

It was a strange film inasmuch as its subject was intensely political, while the execution seemed primarily interested in its own aesthetics. I don't really know a lot about the Bobby Sands case outside of the movie, but I did think the film, in its own way, was one of the most grimly beautiful pictures I've seen.

It sounds like this process brings out the best in people.

Hint: only if you're utterly sexed out for the evening. Or maybe if your gf is kinky like that. Takes all kinds.

Pat, pat, goes my hand on your shoulder. There you are, it'll be okay.

If your weekend didn't live up to expectations on the "disturbing" front, I'm sorry. I, on the other hand, had a Gaspar Noe double feature. On Friday evening, I was at home with nothing to do and my wife was out with her friends, so I decided to take the opportunity to watch Irreversible, which I figured she probably

You, sir, are a man. I am a man, too, but I happen to value my adam's apple.

@twitter-499832989:disqus : My grandma lives in Madelia, MN, and they've got a big mural of the Younger Bros being shot, right across from the gas station when you're coming into town. It's a piece of public artwork you might like.

Fuck you, Mr. Silverman, for destroying the ambiguity of art!!
