I don't know why this particular program signals the death of quality tv programming. "kill the golden age"? Really?  You make a lot of interesting points about the modern age of programming, dvds, and internet program streaming. In addition to the Bebop and BaccanoI had also mentioned previously. My other favorite anime is Beck. Nothing supernatural or sci-fi about it, just about a kid in high school with dreams of being in a band. I've watched it more than Baccano.

Best way to jump in probably. That 2005 season is a good contained 1 season Doctor, and it gets you right into it.

The Bebop was what I thought of when I read his blurb. It's kind of an outlier as far as most anime goes, more Western in the structure and dialogue of it. But it's a great one to jump into. Not too long, only one season of 26 25-minute eps, and the movie.
