I was a senior in '78 and did exactly this. And it was awesome.
I am old enough. Didn't need to be a double album, just a gatefold. I cleaned weed on this album, cleaned weed on Joe Walsh's Smoker You Drink, Machine Head, Let It Be, Katy Lied, Live Dead … and on Houses of the Holy on the day it came out as I was ditching middle school.
And of course Dark Side of the Moon.
Yeah, watching the drummer(Michael Shrieve) on that song is hypnotic.
The dead do not want.

Me = dork.
The anticipation was prolly the best part - waiting for snail mail along with hoping it would be one of those *transcendent* shows.

Like the dead very much, seen 'em more than a few times. Live set-wise I like the 70's shows. Pretty much all their shows are available at http://archive.org/details/… in various states of quality.
I was a devoted tape trader long ago - through the mail, with actual cassette tapes -
it was fun.

Saw the first "Star Wars" on mescaline when it first came out. The 70's were fun at the time and horrifying when remembered.
I saw Foghat in 1975. Before "Stone Blue". I believe my stoned long -haired self is in the crowd on their live album.

Agreed. Great Show.
