I just saw it and was close to dozing off a couple of times. Not really, but I'd had a beer or two and resting my eyes was quite pleasant. From the first shot of steamy Spanish moss-laden swamps of Virginia (eh?), my guard was up, and I still don't understand why this was made. The candlelit scenes were very pretty,

Yay! Great to hear things are going well with you (and maybe consider the Avocado? I don't post there much except for certain dedicated threads but that's where a refurbished RD will move after Kinjnarok).

Sorry; I've been taking off this month for various reasons.

Stay tuned for one of the book review comment threads, if they're still keeping those around.

Got some work done at home, dozed during the parade, went to work, wrapped things up, came home, did a great job of ignoring the fireworks, and had a few bottles of a local hefeweizen while watching Supergirl. It wasn't great, but it didn't suck, either.

Happy Birthday!

Instead it hurts that much more because I had a moment of hope

I live close enough to downtown to hear the Fourth of July parade, but decided not to go (not least because I had to work at noon), partly for similar feelings. Posted about ambiguous patriotism on Facebook (riffing off a picture I took of a black Civil War soldier's grave in a local cemetery) and spent an evening

Really sorry to hear this. That's awful.

"Super Stupid" and "The Witch": two frequent workplace plays. Nice one.

Congratulations! :)

Happy Anniversary!

Worked Sunday and Monday, but got a lot done during the latter; had a half shift Tuesday which wasn't bad, but today it'll be the slow, tedious co-worker. Fortunately I've got tomorrow off.

One of the good things about visiting my family in Louisiana over the holidays has been the increasing availability of Michigan beers in supermarkets. First Founders', then Bell's. Oberon's their other really famous one, but that's a wheat, not a darker, beer.

Bell's Two-Hearted is my single favorite beer of all time, and I'm glad to see it mentioned. I understand people's IPA exhaustion, but B2H is really something else. That said, I had four bottles of Arbor Bavarian Bliss Hefeweizen last night and it was great summer drinkin'.

I'm on the fence. I liked the first trade and usually I like when artists go all painterly with their comics, but the art in Chilling Adventures feels too busy for comfort. Some of the preview here feels like an improvement…?

"Enjoy's"a loaded term, but it was entertaining as hell. I always forget that Yori was also "Lacey Underall" in Caddyshack. David Warner unexpectedly turned up in Ripper Street (in my viewing) tonight as an elderly rabbi.
