May I remind everybody that "All Along the Watchtower" was the title of one of the chapters in the book, and featured prominently in the thematic elements of that section (the heroes splitting off into twos, the Black Freighter story, the "two riders" approaching the enemy base.)

I actually did not like the 99 Luftballons. It took me out of the scene. I think the song could have been used elsewhere to better or more ironic effect (maybe in one of the Nixon war room scenes).

They desperately needed some eye-candy in the top 12. I enjoy that type of singing, so I'm rooting for Megan. Yes, it is quite derivative, but this entire show is a bunch of imitators. Might as well imitate something good.

I Netflixed this movie a few weeks ago because of the Simpsons episode that referenced it. Very good in a disturbing way. You can also see the fine early work by Jackson's special effects crew that later evolved into the Lord of the Rings stuff (same people).
