It's general stuff, I believe. When this episode aired, the teachers at my school were picketing, before and after classes (but not on strike). It's part of the reason this episode sticks out in my mind.

Reducing BATB to a "children's movie" is like saying The Simpsons is a "crude cartoon". And it came out over 20 years ago. It's one of the best reviewed animated movies ever.

I doubt that. Not outside of the "Genius At Work" crowd. You're talking about the show stopping number from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" which was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Plus, it was sung by Jerry Orbach. "Be Our Guest" is a classic through and through.
