It was to be expected, but this list leaves out daytime soap operas, which tackled the issue fairly often. Another World was the first American show to deal with abortion (in 1964). Erica Kane was the first T.V. character to have a legal abortion.

I agree. Her work was underrated, even within the FNL fan community. And she knocked the abortion storyline out of the park.

I know it was a joke, and that Matt Saracen's grandma was fictional, but the idea of that made me tear up a little. I finished FNL last Feb or March, so that character and performance is still seared into my brain.

I didn't read it this weekend but I'm still working on The Colosus of Maroussi. And I think I'm going to start Devil in the White City when I'm done with that.
