I think they've found the perfect female version of Pete in the Alexis Bledel character. They are both surrounded by wealth and privilege, yet they are utterly despondent with the world and their places in it, and ever-so impressionable from the forces surrounding them.
This show really seems to be finding its voice, and so far seems to be avoiding "cute" in its quest for "quirky."
