Ok so I finished this book.  I can see the validity in lots of the criticisms above—the pop culture stuff goes from fun to cringe-worthy and back again in record time. It boils down to a pretty standard sci-fi semi-dystopian setup that could easily have been marketed as a teen/young adult book.
