A question for any of her Queen's "subjects"… but would lying to an inquiry of this kind have the equivalent kind of legal jeopardy as a witness lying to the United States Congress in a hearing (i.e. charges of perjury and obstruction of justice)?

I'm not sure it was something that she's supposed to have done. When Glen begins his testimony, he offers his sympathies to her. That seems to indicate that it may have been an allegation against her family.

I've heard some Trek fans say they really dislike these episodes because they find them preachy and "anvilicious," but I think they work & also tie into & in some ways setup the themes that will become prominent in the Dominion story-line & differentiate "Deep Space Nine" from the other Treks.

Whereas having Malcolm around is like having a rabid pitbull as a pet. The dog may come in handy for scaring

If Tucker's position & career path are analogous to Alastair Campbell's, then he probably did some work in front of the camera speaking in support of the Labour government, since Campbell was Tony Blair's spokesman & press secretary before becoming director of communications.
