The catalogs were from Scholastic.  I bought a shit-ton of Three Investigators books from those when I was a kid.  The most heartbreaking moment of my elementary school career was when I realized I had forgotten to bring in my order form an missed my chance for a free Darth Vader patch.

A friend of mine had a cassette of Stompin Tom's greatest hits, which I loved completely unironically, even though I found the statement in the liner notes that the songs were the ever-glowing residue of a true patriot's love for his country and its people absolutely hilarious.

There is (was?) a great display at the In Flanders Fields museum in the Cloth Hall in Ieper (Ypres) that consisted of a recording of that poem playing as a plexiglass cylinder holding a gas mask slowly filled with hideously green-lit vapor.

I have been combing through hundreds of WWI AEF unit histories.  I am looking for very specific, but very infrequently mentioned things.  It's tedious as all get-out but it makes those little nuggets of information that I do find so much more rewarding.

I tried Marduk for running once.  Turns out 250bpm black metal really fucks up your pace.
