His internet "offenses" seem pretty much limited to a fundamental belief in the efficacy of nonviolent protest, and being mean to strangers who insult him.

Wait…so your argument is that a story whose premise is "The ideal of America has been subverted by fascism" "has no other artistic relevance"???

He's getting plenty of cents from the generous contract he signed in 1985, which permits DC to pillage his characters at will.

w/r/t Rebirth, it really does feel like a cogent criticism of the New 52 to say that they were desperate attempts to Watchmen-ify the DCU without truly understanding what made the character work.

It really boils down to "I don't like these themes, so it's a bad story."

But then he ignores the fact that Steve overshadowing Sam is the entire damn point of both series…

Making Oliver's argument "Within the context of the environment within which he's telling this story, HYDRA and the Nazis are different…but people who don't read comic books or watch the TV shows THINK they're the same thing, so Spencer's EVIL!!!!"

He had Wasp call Cap out for being a John Wayne-style asshole, and (after the fact) Cap said it was just the type of thing that comes into your head in a fight.

"THIS ART CHALLENGES MY PRECONCEPTIONS ABOUT AMERICA, SO IT'S BAD!!!!!!!!!!!"

READ THE OLD GUARD!!!!

And that's fair!

So…your argument against his saying "The critiques the AVC has made of this story have nothing to do with the quality of the story, or its themes' relevance to the past year of American life, and are instead whining about a piece of art making them uncomfortable" is…"THIS ART MAKES ME UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!!!"

Crazy how getting a ton of death threats can affect how nice you are to strangers on the internet!

I read the Rebirth special, and I was fine with it, as long as the story was interesting.

The worst part about the frequent Hydra-Cap articles is that Oliver never fucking talks about whether or not it's a good story.

That's actually not weird at all!

I was between 2 and 4 at some point between 1991 and 1996, haha!

Yeah…I'm sure "Crikey" is her favorite quaintly Australian word starting with c

I wish Are You Afraid of the Dark had never happened.

Hah, awesome! One of the best parts of the MCU is their willingness to make choices that seem weird.
