I can often be found desperately struggling to keep a straight face on public transport thanks to Answer Me This, so I'm glad Andrew liked it. It's easily my favourite podcast. I know a regular review is highly unlikely, but I'd like to register my interest anyway: pleeeeaaase?

Yes, and long may it continue. The jingles are hilarious. I don't even know my own phone number as well as I know Helen and Olly's, because it's set to the catchiest music ever written. oh-two-oh-eight-one-two-threeeeee, five-eight-double seeeven!

Yeah, it took its sweet time getting here. And I'll have you know those four stars are out of six.

It was actually during the week, but since I spent the weekend blearily watching Eurovision with a flu-soaked brain, I'm counting it: I saw The Woman in Black, and I really enjoyed it. My capacity for horror films has badly diminished since my teens, so I was dubious about going, but no intense dislike for being

Damn it, I clicked on a Sherlock notification, and got stupid Elementary news instead. Foul play, AV Club. :(

Nothing, really - but on purpose, as nothing could top meeting John Darnielle last weekend and I needed time to get some actual sleep ("thanks", my job). But on Friday night I went to the bookstore and bought Little Star, by John Ajvide Lindqvist and Women of Letters, curated by Marieke Hardy and Michaela McGuire.

Haha, no, alas - he'd have landed on me if he did. The Metro has a metre-and-a-half gap between the stage and the fence the crowd is behind, and I don't think the run-up would've been long enough to clear it.

On Saturday, I tried and failed to get a tattoo (my font choice is too fiddly, alas - I'll simplify it and go back), and on Saturday night I went to a costume party as Velma Dinkley.

I saw The Mountain Goats on Sunday night in Sydney! The set was amazing and the band were ecstatic to be there and there was not a single only-casual fan in the audience. Afterward, I met JD at the merch table (where he recognised me from the front row! I thought he did, and my big story of the night was going to be

"and Martin Freeman offers up a solid take on Watson."

Answer Me This!, which is Helen Zaltzman and Olly Mann (and Martin the Sound Man) answering listener-submitted questions and getting their jingles stuck in my head for weeks at a time. It's very funny and very clever and absolutely my favourite podcast. I highly recommend it.

Weird coincidence - I just spent the day cleaning out my wardrobe, and one of the things I've reluctantly parted with is my first ever Tool shirt, bought when I was 14. I'm sad to see it go, but it doesn't fit and smells vaguely of mould.

I really wish my workplace hadn't blocked Disqus. I love the articles, don't get me wrong, but being unable to read the comments until I get home kinda takes the shine off my AVC experience.

Normally present tense bothers me as well (it's illogical! If this is a journal, written as events unfold, then why isn't it laid out that way?) but I think the immediacy of the action caught me before that irritation could really sink in. Well played, Suzanne Collins.

I've finished Mockingjay now (three books in 2.5 days may be a personal best… at least since I started having responsibilities besides reading) and yes, there's a definite drop in quality as the series continues. But it had me to the end, and the ending managed to suckerpunch me in its abruptness, so I think

I finally started reading The Hunger Games, because I'm keen to see the movie and will always read the book first. The writing is middling, the protagonist is occasionally unlikable, and every plot twist is telegraphed from miles away… but holy shit, it's absorbing. I bought the other two in the series before I even

Being on a list sounds vaguely malevolent (…), but yeah, I'm also of the female persuasion. Hello.
