That was how I understood it. Through the whole episode, Roger is sulking because he never gets credit for "finding guys like Don Draper." Then the flashbacks reveal that he never did "find" or hire Don Draper. Don duped his way into SC.

I'm just watching the series now. 
Surprised that no one mentioned Ocean's 11. This episode was basically a great heist movie with all of the character detail and interesting subplots that characterize the Soderbergh Oceans movies. Such a great rejuvenating twist for the series after the weight of the previous episode.

No one else is reading this right now as I work my way through the series, but the person doing these reviews is a let down. 
Do a comparison to Noel's reviews which discussed themes and tone, while Phippsy basically does a recap that often interprets key lines and scenes in the most redundant way.I can barely keep

Skyler is just as bland and coasting as double Phil, but they both have charisma.

I hope the Trailer Park Boys Christmas special is behind one of the doors of this Advent Calendar. It's such a surprising juxtoposition of swearing and sentimentality.
