I don't believe you. Long ago, someone you admired told you satire was cool, and you've just been pretending to enjoy satire since then.

1) Most people suck their jobs. 2) It's hard for me not to hate pompous bands with insufferable fans (see the Mars Volta), regardless of their merit, or lack thereof. I'm not a pro music critic, but if I were, I would suck at my job.

It's important to have people around to call you on your dumb bullshit. Taking criticism is just part of being an adult. Mars Volta's biggest problem is there doesn't seem to be anyone saying "No, that's dumb" while they're recording.
