I can't stand her. I hate her singing, I hate her "soulful" face when she's playing violin, and I hate the way she was so passive and a mostly silent object (to the other characters but also to the audience) for the first season and a half, and now suddenly has all kinds of unspoken motivations we can only guess at.

I  could really life without the celebrity chef cameos. They do nothing to enhance the story of Janette. All she does is sit there looking grateful to be included in such rarified company.

i actually like this show best when it avoids the investigation/procedural plotlines and allows itself to be a character study of people and a city.

I love that he's been smart enough to not make his teeth even and perfect. It adds an everyguy quality.

"Sitcom trope" is basically what would have been known centuries ago to the commedia dell'arte as lazzi. It's not whether you enact a situation, but how you do it, and I think this was done well. Just the Howard University line made it worthwhile.
