Oh, for the uninitiated, Don's rose is a memorial/tribute to his wife, who died of cancer several years ago.

The classy touch of the Rose on his lapel makes up for all of the horrendous clothing it complements. Don's politics…well, I'm not Canadian so I don't get all the nuances, but he seems like a bit of a right wing nut, with a soupcon of xenophobia.
The same music is used on Goodbye, Lenin! Apparently it was a cult hit before Amelie made it close to ubiquitous.
Nice new look Phel
There was a lot of french swearing. They saw Jin, somebody said something to the effect of "I thought you said we were all here?" The answer came "We are, he isn't one of us". These are rough translations of french through bad background noise and remembered a day later, but that was the gist.
Zack & Miri & Nick & Norah
These two titles came out annoyingly close to one another, and while I never confused the two, hearing the name of the one always reminded me of the other.
I entirely agree that movies don't have to be about characters, and some of my favorite movies are allegorical, or play with ideas about life or human nature (Porkys, for example)
I didn't enjoy the movie because I couldn't get beyond the absolute unreality of the character at its center. It seemed like a cheat, much like one dimensional characters in other movies. One dimensional characters in movies serve the plot by being just the bad guy, or just the supportive girlfriend, or whatever. …
I did not like this movie
I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago, and I just couldn't get past how utterly lack of internal motivation Chance is. He exists solely as a mirror, without any kind of desire. He seems more like a metaphysical construct of a tabula rasa that has been taught gardening.
Nobody puts Baby in a corner!
Hell, 2 bucks? Sold. Pay the shipping and it's yours. Of course, I would technically have to steal it from work (although I doubt it would be missed…)
Suggestion
We have a bookcase filled with old worn-out paperbacks in my office, mostly romance novels, sci-fi and old business textbooks. Among them is an autobiography by Milton Berle called B.S. I LOVE YOU. I haven't read it but I love the title. Any interest?
Potw words of wisdom
I am really sick of the writers putting expositional bromides in the Potws' mouths. It is really frustrating, because House (the show) can be so subtle, like with the cup at the end, but they fall back too often this season to on-the-nose, pithy thematic statement.
I'm glad I am not the only one here who forgot to play…
Pardon me friend, could you help out a fellow American who is down on his luck?
The last time I checked, Butterfinger was not telling people not to get treatement for their diseases and letting them die from entirely preventable illnesses.
ok, so antidisestablishmentarianism is actually a political philosophy more than a philisophical movement. I just wanted to use the word.
The problem with the term is that it is nondescriptive. In Philosopy, nihlism, antidisestablishmentarianism or determinism are monikers that actually describe what the belief system is, much the same way that cubism, impressionism or baroque do in art.
Two thoughts:
Faraday said Desmond was unique, and so perhaps these rules don't apply to him
Rewind to the first episode of the season
Did anyone else notice that one of the Others sitting outside in the jungle at the very beginning of episode 1 seemed to have a bit of a nosebleed? I reowind it a couple of times and his nose really does look red.
