I think a lot of it is about hipster deification of 'authenticity'. So much of the ethos of the hipster is about things being authentic: hence fixies, lumberjack shirts et al. It's not really authentic of course - mostly, it's cosplay of working class tropes. Prog is usually portrayed as a middle-class music form…
