not quite. it's the SHOW that assumes Draper is some kind of perfect ad genius. the article is simply reacting to the characterization that has been made of Don Draper throughout the past five seasons of the show.

as soon as I finished this episode I went to the imdb page of Mara Marini, the actress who plays Brandi Maxxxx. I was seriously hoping she'd had a bit part in Argo and that the writers threw that in there as a wink to the audience. alas, I was wrong.
