This is true. The duds are the nights when he does this weird up-singing, where he spits out each line on one note, then jumps up to a higher note on the last syllable. It's weird.

Maron has really toned down the aggressiveness - it's not like in the earlier days of the podcast. Now he seems to make an effort to find common ground with his guests, while acknowledging differences.

I guess with that in mind, I would say All Things Must Pass (minus disc 3) and Double Fantasy (minus all of Yoko's songs) are the best solo albums.

Hahaha, I completely forgot that that third disc existed. You're right, there are no rock-solid post-Beatle solo albums.

Yeah, All Things Must Pass is the only ex-Beatle solo album that's great through and through. But all four of them put out plenty of great songs after the split.

That period in general is uneven but with some strong highlights. Those albums were hated when they came out, but I think they've actually aged pretty well. Not like his late eighties albums, like Knocked Out Loaded.
