Naw - once we get him in the water he seems to resign himself to his fate. He even seems to realize on some level that it's doing him good. I love the books overall. "Red Dragon" is certainly gritty, very much the popular lurid crime thriller, but it's good for that. "Silence" is similar but stranger, then "Hannibal" does get very poetic while upping the weirdness quotient considerably.

I did notice it! And I often think, watching TV shows and movies, "Gosh, this shot really needs deep focus here" and wonder why they don't use it.
