Generally speaking, the writing has been path-of-least-resistance, Occam's razor, and all that; but … please, God, no.  That would be disappointingly predictable.  The show doesn't really squander narrative potential so much as it thinks like the geeky kid in high school who actually cracks a funny joke for once,
