This is kind of a weird criticism, but I think that sometimes a trailer is put together so well that it creates an aura of expectation so immense that there's no way the film it's promoting can ever realistically live up to it. I mean I really enjoyed the Dark Knight, but I was still a little disappointed with it,…

I don't know remember what year it was, but my brother and I saw a bunch of movies the year Vantage Point came out, and god we must have seen that trailer at least eight times. It actually became a fun inside joke though, because the trailer is so ludicrous and over-the-top that we would just start laughing the…

Although given Scott's track record, I am a bit interested to see how much gets added/replaced/reworked in the eventual Director's Cut, and if makes the film appear more or less competent/logical than it currently is.

Actually it felt a lot like Sunshine at the start, and Sunshine by the end.

Wow, your post just brought back a wave of Tiny Toons nostalgia. I think I saw the movie after the episode too, but I remember being really impressed by the artistry of it just as you did.

And yet, despite all its shortcomings, the film still manages to send a shiver down my spine during the final scenes, which is another testament to how strong the initial set-up was (and also a testament to the brilliance of John Murphy's moving score).

Totally agree. That was one of the more jarring things I've seen in any movie over the last decade, just because of how abruptly and forcefully it took place, and how strangely complicit she was during the whole thing. And I'm suprised that it wasn't mentioned in the article, since it took place immediately before…

Ha, I had the same experience. I bought their Guide to Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll thinking it would be good for a few laughs, but all it was good for was inducing nausea and an intense hatred for the human race. I ended up giving it away because I couldn't stand looking at it. I still cringe whenever I think…
The paradoxical nature of this statement is blowing my mind. How were you able to post this message? Are you inside the A.V. Club mainframe? ARE YOU the A.V. Club mainframe?
I've been patiently waiting for a gritty reboot of the Trix rabbit for years.
It's nice to see that the AV Club staff has finally reached the acceptance stage in its grieving over the Dawes meme.
