Are they war veterans?

I find something very fishy by how Sims frames that episode.  I suspect these supposed haters of The Merv Griffin Show are figments of his very active imagination conjured up to make his tepid feelings appear more reasoned.  I cry foul, Sims!  Shenanigans!

I thought this was the highbrow version of the new McG movie.

Hey @avclub-d80ecbbbef6ab40a4e53d1ad2c3fc1b2:disqus !  I maintain that Tim does very smart, good work.  I still have the bottle of Glenfiddich he gave me as a wrap gift for Ssn 2, I'm moving to New Orleans this week, and waiting for my brother to come move in with me. We're gonna crack that bottle when he makes it.

@avclub-23207f541a152a7152949accf8e1bce5:disqus , I'm 100% sure it's a budget thing.  The cost of rolling a car onto a soundstage, slapping a few panel lights on the dash (the gaffer at Justified loves his panel lights), and shooting at will is vastly cheaper than renting a process trailer (and driver, both of which

Anybody notice Coover's red skull pipe on Poe's coffee table?

Back when I first started working there, I thought it would be a great development to see them off Winona (because seriously, an unhinged Raylan is a great thing to behold), but thing is, the devotion to Leonard is sacrosanct.  In the books, Raylan and Winona have like, three kids together, separate, she remarries,

Nick Searcy, Stephen Root, and Tony Goldwyn (who hasn't acted on Justified yet, but directed last season's Brother's Keeper) were all in From the Earth to the Moon, which I know Yost had a hand in, too.

Understood, and I apologize for my incivility.  Abrams wrote some shitty, fucked up reviews.  Just got a lot wrong, like, factually, about what was going on in the show.  That said, a lot of folks like the show, so it's easy to understand how somebody in the middle ground feels caught in crossfire.  I think a lot of

@avclub-c32c385098594487a303db83e33f2ea1:disqus , actually, quite different, as Todd Margaret's laid out over 12 in-process episodes, developing to an overall whole week-to-week.  We can all agree Abrams wrote shitty reviews, and that's very likely why he no longer writes them (furthermore, commentary on those shitty

Yes, I think playing against type is one reason Brooks deserved a nomination.  But furthermore, his performance was all understated slow burn - just as every confused comment on this thread attests - he wasn't chewing scenery, he wasn't throwing intimidation every which way, he was very reserved as a villain, which

HOLY SHIT, GUYS.  So there's this thing called the internet, and there's this director named Terrence Malick, and he's made like, five movies, and they all share the same visual style, and some people find that style to be slow and uninteresting, and others find it to be reflective and contemplative, and they all meet

Yeah, @avclub-09dafbb5a95d050fbc8a3384dfb7ad79:disqus 's right, when we pick up for this episode, Todd's just spent three days in a coma from the rugby game.  The structure of the seasons is definitely unconventional - '24' this ain't - but I think that's part of the fun of figuring out, after all is said and done,

This may be a bit of a spoiler, but IFC's been running commercials all season with Dave explaining to a jailed Todd, "This is bad, they're even talking about reinstituting the death penalty… They're calling it the Todd Margaret Bill," to which Todd asks "Yeah, but that wouldn't apply to ME, would it?"

I may be wrong, but I think you're misreading his intentions with that opening.  The second sentence is pretty important to the context.  Yes, there are scores of times in nine episodes that you cringe at the show, but think of it as "cringing with" instead of "cringing at."  The comparison to The Office is

Wow, I wasn't doubting you, but yeah, just hopped over to facebook and checked that out.  Pretty brutal.  Hate to say it, but it seems overly sensitive and petty to for Cross to just throw that up.  I mean, if you're David Cross, 1) you hopefully have better things to do than try crucifying a critic that's already

I'm moving there next week.  @avclub-84a9f64106792dd9b7e5ba4d631ac12e:disqus, know anybody looking for a roommate?

Don't get me started, I'll tell the story about when I stopped a runaway car with a 3-year old in the back when the mom hopped out to chase George Clooney down the street…

I have just a skosche (a jewish smidge) of jealousy of Ben, as I look at his career and see a lot of decisions I've made wrong (also, it helps that he's got talent, notably absent on my part).  That said, while at Undercovers, he and Boris Kodjoe both did an okay impression of me.  Those smug bastards…

Did a movie with Ray this past fall, and he's great.  Really kind, funny, gracious guy.  Thrilled to hear he's got a project of his own.
