The death of John Bonham was really the death of rock and roll for a lot of kids of that era. Nick practically says so at one point in the second episode, I believe.
"Normally, a character like Daniel might get a big monologue that
explains why he seems so mysterious, but he mostly hangs back, and James
Franco makes his mystique seem like the coolest thing in the world."
I think anybody in a Ted or Don-like position at a smaller ad agency would have to have that shark-like disposition to get to their status. Ted's feelings for Peggy were out of personal, genuine emotions, but they were interfering with his business persona, and he had to cut them — and her, basically — loose.
Agreed for the most part, but calling Fistful of Metal spotty is a stretch, that album rules hard. Even the "I'm Eighteen" cover is great.
NOT!
That's a pretty fair assessment of Ken's character. Harry is just an insufferable asshole, but he's basically always been that way.
I never got the impression that Don disliked Bob Benson. If anything, I got the impression that Bob's elevator conversation with Don was a lot like Don's attempts to woo Roger into getting him a job at Sterling Cooper. Don might have found him a nuisance, but I never got the sense that he disliked the guy. I think Ken…
I agree. I've been getting just as much enjoyment from this season as I did from the first 5 seasons. Some other sites and bloggers have been driving me crazy with their
reviews of this show now. I think people are expecting the show
to jump the shark and to be sucky because it's been so consistently great for so long,
…
My favorite joke of this ilk happened on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It was early in the Season 4 premiere, when Jazz enters the house and says, "Hey Will, does Aunt Viv look different to you?" (she was replaced by a new actress).
As a 14 year old boy discovering Biohazard in 1998, "Authority" was one of my anthems at the time. Then I discovered Slayer and realized how lame Biohazard was, but by that point I had already owned their live album and State of the World Address. I was shocked when I put on State of the World Address 2 years ago and…
Jesus, I could not disagree with this statement any more. Enough with this metal elitism. If you didn't like Pantera, that's fine, but they were the only "new" metal band of the 90s to have any success whatsoever. Without them, the only bands drawing in the 90s would have been a non-metal Metallica, a…
Cleverly, this review does not link to the AVClub's review of Part II, which they gave a B, somehow. http://www.avclub.com/artic…
The Unplugged show was awesome, as was the version of "Plush" from that show. But the most commonly played acoustic version of "Plush" was just Dean DeLeo and Scott Weiland from Headbanger's Ball; the Unplugged version was the whole band playing acoustically, I believe. I think the acoustic HBB version is on their…
I just did a CTRL-F on "eat a big fat" and it seems I was beaten to the punch. Well done.
Completely agree with you, @avclub-33807fbc68d335db8080d3c10cb78822:disqus. There's a big perceived difference between The Wall and Ziggy Stardust than, say, Kilroy Was Here by Styx. You could argue that Styx committed to their concept just as well as Bowie or Floyd, but because the public didn't buy it, especially…
I'm a huge NIN fan, and I realize that "Black Skinhead" (his first song) samples "The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson, but I got a huge NIN vibe from the visuals and the overall production on that song, and I LOVED it. The performance was insanely energetic and captivating with the visuals, and I'm really…
"The moral of this one is, this is what NOT to do when your bird shits on you. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner!"
Windom Earle is so hammy but when Bob destroys him in the Lodge that is pretty awesome. Not disturbing or terrifying, but an appropriate end for that shitbag of a character.
I came up with my own theory that Judy was Josie's sister who got trapped inside of a monkey. Yes, I realize how ridiculous that sounds, until you all remember that Josie herself inhabited a WOODEN KNOB, so I think I'll stick with my interpretation.
