Re: devonshyr "If I kill you, you'll be awake and armed," I read that as Mal telling Simon that he will kill him only if he becomes an honest threat.  Also, I'm not sure awake and armed is his standard for every person he comes across. I'm not sure it even applies to Jayne, for instance. Maybe it's specific to Simon.

Probably because if you are going to reference a song in a graphic novel. it helps to use a song that the readers will have some familiarity with, because they aren't going to hear the song actually playing.  In a movie, when you can hear the actual music, maybe it's better to made a choice that isn't quite as on the
