Remember that Kenneth Turan panned Titanic in the LA Times, and after Cameron won, he forced the Times to print (using major advertiser pressure) on the front page of the Sunday Calendar a letter to the editor excoriating Turan and Times for ever questioning his greatness. That's pretty screams "I'm the king asshole…
isn't the point, why hire him then? He's not a good action director, he didn't write the script, what's the value in having him on your project, aside from whatever residual fame he possesses?
Really insane when you consider the studio then proceeded to hide the fact that he was the director (in the TV ads anyway), losing whatever name recognition boost they might have gotten from his fans. Them hollywood execs, dumb as a pile o' rocks sometimes.
