Maybe I missed it but did they ever show a scene where Hauser and/or Hastings acknowledge that they know who each other is from 1963?  Hastings may have trained Hauser given he looked young in the flashback but at minimum, they knew each other.  I never saw Hastings make the connection nor Hauser be explicit about it.
