I saw it, at least partially, as a homage to 'The Last Picture Show' which was enough for me.

The lovely black and white photography makes this one a bit more big screen worthy.
I agree with this, especially the first part. A couple of reviews have nodded at the Preston Sturges-like quality of the story and depiction of small town life and I think there's something in that. Anyway, Dern is fantastic here - that's the main thing I took away from it.
I've asked a couple of times already on here but how about Warner for Random Roles? Have you even tried to get hold of him?
Yup, that scene is great. Also love the elegantly minimalist Jack motivation explanation at the climax: 'My mother was a dreadful woman in many ways…'
'Airbag' by Radiohead: 'I am born again, in a fast German car.'
When the British Eurostar departure station switched from Waterloo to King Cross St Pancras they installed a big mural ad at the Gare de Nord amusingly captioned: 'Oubliez Waterloo.' Here's a nice picture of it: http://photos.linternaute.c…
They were all really high-end ones too, making us Brits feel like scruffy little tramps.
Speaking of British mix-ups why does the bloke who narrates the Newcastle Brown Ale ad have a Yorkshire accent? Bollocks indeed!
The film is a bit daft but the scene at the kids' party in 'Signs' is really alarming.
The nightmare scene in 'Amour' too.
Agreed on (1) - really disturbing.
A last minute rewrite has the disgusted Cap going to work for Angela Merkel, who will be played by Tom Hiddlestone.
I went to the press conference for Thor: The Dark World. I didn't realise that Kat Dennings acts like that in real life.
Dreadful.
Liked a million times for that second paragraph. I hate this fucker! He looks like the 'cheeky' boyfriend your sister brings home who you know is going to treat her like shit.
I can't remember the exact quote as usual but the moment when Dennis Quaid says 'fucking' in 'Far From Heaven'. By placing it in this 50s Sirkian world Haynes reclaims the word's ability to shock. That and 'Get your hands off her boy!' are the two electric jolts in that movie.
I love that, all the world-weariness in three words.
I'm no fan of Richie Cunningham's films or Formula 1 but I can highly recommend 'Rush', it's great!
I'm actually from Gateshead to be honest but I got in the habit of saying Newcastle because nobody had heard of it - I left before the whole NewcastleGateshead PR / tourist thing.
Oops, didn't realize you'd posted this when I posted just now.
