On the plus side your post had me laughing like a drain if you can imagine such a thing.

Absolutely, good one.

Friday, I traversed an eerily quiet London to see Laurie Anderson performing at the Royal Festival Hall as part of Antony Hegarty's 'Meltdown Festival' - visually underwhelming and Ms Anderson's arch whimsy would be better experienced in a state of semi-consciousness on a badly tuned radio in the middle of the night

Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. I just found the whole thing so portentous and overwrought that I didn't even go and see the third installment. I did give my screening ticket to my Tolkien-obsessed flatmate though so I'm not all bad.

I agree about the chronology being a bit off. Also certain scenes - the car rental one, and the visit / phone call to college friend - seemed staged. I liked it but just found it incredibly depressing.

Yes.

Yes.

He has more of a reputation as a very fine stage actor here in the UK. I'm off to see him in Timons of Athens soon at the National which I'm very much looking forward to.
