I guess their early records and late records sound different enough that they've acquired totally different kinds of fans. Aside from the songs mentioned downthread, I'd say "The Laws Have Changed" and "All for Swinging You Around" and examples of what they're great at. These songs are beautiful.

Carl Newman has a bad concept of what he's good at. He's good at writing intelligent bubblegum, which they do less and less of. He's bad at writing ballads, which he wants to put at least 3 of on each album. They also seem to relegate Neko to the ballads rather than letting her sing the upbeat tunes. Dan Bejar's

I know there are some musicians making this kind of dough. I didn't think Aimee Mann was at that household-name level.

It is a little sad that this could be the most lucrative part of her career. Years of working and trying to write the best songs she can…it'd be a little deflating to have bad luck and outrageous litigation be her windfall.

I hope she wins and gets he due, but this amount of money is insane. I would love to see the math that shows that Aimee Mann would've/should've earned $18 million in music sales since 2005. How many artists make that much? Rolling Stones? Metallica? Justin Timberlake? I really don't know enough about the music

Phil's just trying to explain how good they are playing against type in a sweet, romantic sketch.

I'm glad you had a nice time, but if I ever, at long last, get out from under student loan and credit card debt and am able to travel, DO NOT try to talk me into Rwanda, mister.

Well, you're praising Against Me fans, who of course are more likely to be tolerant people. Your average Youtube or CNN or ESP commenter would probably have a couple zingers about ol' Laura that would make you hate humanity anew.

Eh, I think it's kinda cool to not do a big thinkpieice on him for once. All he'd do is say vague weirdo stuff about TM, anyhow. I kinda like that this is a normal topic, being discussed with an oddball that seems like he never does anything normal.

He looks EXACTLY like his dad in that scene.

That's what's so great about Lynch. You can never tell if he's joking (and fairly normal), or serious (and insane).

All in a day's work for an Indy Car official:

I might not LOVE their songs but they had, at the very least, one major talent. Vernon Reid is/was probably the best guitar player in the metal realm.

Not sure if replying to this actually means anything, but yes, I get that "sick file folder" image after a few minutes on every article I read.

Ned's Atomic Dustbin, Dr. Dre, Van Halen. Just guesses!

But some men/roommates ARE just friends. Both relationships are possible, and it's been clearly stated that these two are depicted as friends. Why should "gay relationship" be the default?

Not saying it's a perfect argument, just food for thought. In Lowery's case, I know he runs a very popular recording studio in Richmond, VA. THAT'S where his work in the music business is now, and it is impressive that he has maintained it. Should he expect to be set for life because people still listen to "Low?"

How much money should a person make for 2 weeks work he did recording a song in 1992? These days, you just have to get out there and play shows and actually perform music for people to make a living as a musician.

I'm glad you mentioned it, only so I have a place to proclaim my view that "Brad Pitt has face blindness" is total horseshit.
