Yea, I could see being turned off when it gets more formulaic toward the end @avclub-6997a8bd0e1042b70b60c5c879a1780e:disqus . But, for me the characters and situation had enough specificity that I didn't mind them using the typical Rom-Com conventions.  At the least, I felt like I understood why these two people

Totally.  I thought any breakthroughs or improvement the characters found was due more to "honor your commitments and put in the work" than to "find the right person".

I'm doing a script/movie project with a 7th grade class (they are writing an adaptation of Ray Bradbury's "All Summer In a Day") and to build background information on script writing and formatting we looked at some script excerpts from The Hucksucker Proxy; we looked at the board room scene when Norville presents his

I've got the DVD for this but haven't watched it yet…I'm thinking I should move it up the queue.  I was hoping for "Holy. Fucking. Shit."; glad to hear it brings it.

It's a bit of scary proposition, sharing beloved things with kids.  I know there will be a day where my son will casually dismiss something I hold near and dear.  I'm mentally prepping for it now! (he's only 4 months, so I've got time)

Ha! Well, I'm a Will Arnett/Will Forte/Bob Odenkirk fan too and I had heard that it was better than it's reputation suggested but maybe, when the day comes, I'll temper my expectations a bit.

Not that I can tell.  And these ones seemed to pop up in quick succession, so hopefully there are more to come.

How long were you stuck?

That was like a dunk after throwing it to yourself off the backboard, @avclub-4602fc349ffc0ad649190e937f2a5f14:disqus .  Nice work!

I will say that, while I think rewatching it is worthwhile, one of the effects for me is finding the main character to be more and more annoying.

I watched that this weekend too, but I ended up liking it more than you did @avclub-fc0917d88195961172274194b3525c14:disqus .  I have a family member who is bi-polar, so I was a bit worried that the mental illness aspect would be a little trivialized by grafting it onto what is basically a romantic comedy.  In the

2007 is stacked with personal favorites for me; ZodiacThere Will Be BloodNo Country For Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford, Hot Fuzz, Death Proof, Walk Hard, Superbad, Hot Rod, Ratatouille, Juno, The Simpsons Movie, Ocean's 13, Michael Clayton

Re: Primer, I first watched it knowing it was a "time travel" movie and I still enjoyed it quite a bit.  I liked it because it took an approach on time travel that I hadn't really seen before; you could probably just as accurately describe it as a SPOILER "cloning movie".  I've seen it several times since and I still

Not sure if these have been mentioned around here before but I’ve really been enjoying the Pitchfork Classic album documentary series.  They’re oral histories of classic albums featuring archival footage and new interviews with band members, producers and folks directly involved with the albums creation. They tell

You probably don't even like a nice MLT - a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe.

I used to think the score the score was "too '80's" but over time I've come to agree with you @avclub-e5cb6734891848adc94674a231112f49:disqus .

We are men of action @avclub-057859d502ee9201857e867efb89d225:disqus … lies do not become us.

Well, do you want us to send you back to where you were, @avclub-21c3134ee5edcb618c4f9aae358d73a7:disqus ?

I teach at a middle school in Vietnam at an English language school and have an after school Movie Club.  We just watched The Princess Bride the other week and it was such a pleasure to see these kids just eating out of the movies hand. They really dug it!

This whole topic seems to provoke a bit of the nitpicking instinct in me ("Hmmm, what can I find to dislike about things that I love?"), but Groundhog Day is the first one I've seen where my first reaction was,"Yes! Agreed."
