I may be reading too much into this, but I think it's a neat parody of the way rappers are always bringing in big name pop stars to "sing the hook", regardless of whether their music actually has anything in common.  Also, Michael Bolton as Erin Brokovich is pretty amusing.

I went to see them on that last tour and the band was just Brooke and three hired backup musicians.  It was like an indie-rock version of the beach boys at the casino/ state fair.  Very weird.
