I'll defend that Krauss/Plant album- great harmonizing, good song choices, and interesting production.
It's some of Plant's most restrained (and therefore unique) singing. Seriously.
'Sea Change' is my favorite Beck album.
I agree— Bowie, Smith, and the Kids are interesting because they're willing to try whatever is tickling their fancy at the time. Sometimes it's with amazing results ('Disintegration', 'Low'), other times, not so much ('Wild Mood Swings').
I almost put the Lips in my list, too.
