In the very beginning of the movie, the security guard gives Bruce Willis a tough time about signing in; Gennaro/McClane. Then he says the only folks in the building are at the party, employees who work on the 30th floor. Bill Clay works on the 29th floor, so shouldn't be in the building.

I haven't seen (nor read about) Penny Dreadful so I liken this to filling my Black Sails vacancy. This is far darker and lacks the sailing scenes that first caught my attention in Black Sails. But the costumes and intrigue are there so far.
