From the preview, it looks like they're cooking dishes inspired by what the characters might like to eat. If I'm interpreting the snippet we saw correctly, someone remembered the Flaming Moe and made spicy food for Hank Azaria. Probably donuts for Dan Castellaneta then.

As far as I can tell, they did all the songs pretty close to their original versions. I was hoping for interesting transformations: genre shifts, key changes or something to follow up on the rehabilitation angle.

I hope they eventually go the full parallel series route and we get an episode starring Black Guy, Other Asian and Pianoman and their ongoing struggles with the coach of the swim team and the mean cool kids in the jazz band.

Maybe that search is only popular due to hopeful women checking to see if he's on the market? He is quite the catch.

My impression was less that the episode was padded and more that all the bits explaining what looks like padding got cut for time. It's easy to miss the one line justifications for the winders, the purpose of the tower and the explanation of how Amy left that recording. And I don't think we ever got an explanation of

That, blood on work surface and, last week, not washing up after working with raw meat. All of these guys would have been reamed by the judges on Chopped.

The novels and audio plays
They vary in quality as much as the TV show has, but the best ones are well worth your time. The novels did much to redeem the characterization of the 7th Doctor and the audios have done wonders for the 6th and even Mel. And they're the only place to get 8th Doctor stories.

Like Emily said in the review, cooking a first date meal isn't much of a challenge; the real test was to work with another executive chef with a different style to create two dishes that work well together.

Is there a better way to end a love triangle?
than by killing the other guy and dumping the body in a river? I don't think so.

Unreliable Narrator?
As Assless Chaps mention above, Walter seemed suspiciously and uncharacteristically blameless in everything we saw in this episode. But are we seeing what happened or are we seeing the story he's telling Olivia? Maybe we shouldn't be taking this at face value.

Henry Petroski already did the latter two as chapters in his book The Evolution of Useful Things. Yes, I know you were just writing clever sub-titles, but it's a surprisingly interesting book.

I used to work for a documentary production company that did a lot of work for the Discovery Channel. Their decisions were cryptic, arbitrary and always leaning towards dumbing things down, but I can't say they ever had a problem with us talking about evolution.

This episode's weirdness
This episode seemed more of a Better off Ted script than a Community one. It had the off-kilter characters reactions amplifying a small quirk (the landlocked sailing class) into broad farce and it had another character's character flaws building conflict.

Not funny, weak excuse for a plot, lazy characterizations. On the other hand, the setting and premise have a lot of potential and I did like the visual style and character design. I'll probably remember to check back for improvement right after it gets canceled.

A rotating black hole can have jets like a pulsar; I don't we could tell the difference from the quick glimpse we got. Here's a pic of a black hole that looks pretty close to what the special effects folks came up with.

kjohnson, you're probably thinking of http://politedissent.com. I can't get through to it right now; The medical science in this episode must have been so ludicrous that half the audience searched for a critique as soon as they got to work this morning and they've slashdotted the site.

I think she was feeling the paternal love at that moment. He had just finished a load of praise for the consciousness in the machine without knowing it was her and there were a few reaction shots showing her basking in it.

To expand on number one, this is a virus found ten miles underground from 75,000 years ago that killed the ice age megafauna. That's a whole lot of stupid that the script packed into one sentence.
