I think 2,000 words is longish for an A.V. Club article. Plus he does a bunch of them per week.

So he's creepy and weird. Not a loser. Calling Don a loser is like calling Richard Nixon a loser. Sure, Nixon was a deplorable, strange, spiteful motherfucker, but he was also President of the United States. Don is an awfully flawed dude, but he's rich and powerful. The rich and powerful are not losers.

I don't get these constant classifications of Don as a loser. He's a rich, self made man who is choosing to be incredibly amoral. Sure, he's withholding a certain amount of emotion from his children, but they're provided for and (Ida aside) are generally secure. He is, at all times, trying to genuinely feel something.

… you can shut right the hell up. Boardwalk Empire is a fantastic show.

Well, his mother died having him… his stepmother didn't love him very much. Or at all. Or, really, just treated him like a carbuncle that surgery couldn't possibly remove.

Yup. I played three seasons of college football on a broken foot. Every year it would re-break during training camp. I was always worried that I wouldn't be able to play anymore, but it turns out the team doctor had pills for it.

Only a few things this time…

Did he meet the….. I'll shut up

Ted:  "Oh Don, don't you have any hope?"

@avclub-6b493c34994dc6ba778a17d1603774aa:disqus maybe Don isn't interested in love. That doesn't make him pathetic.

Ted is genuine and kind and full of hope. He's a good guy. He gives up his chair to his secretary in meetings, he visits and comforts his partner in the hospital, he has hobbies and interests he's passionate about outside the office (that don't revolve around whoring and drinking or LSD). Ted is just brimming over

I don't find Don pathetic at all. He tried to be more feeling, more compassionate; he tried to genuinely love Megan, he tried to be a good father… and in the process of trying those things he found they didn't suit him. Then he cut Lane down last season and saw a possible future:  An unhappy, desperate man who just

Maybe Todd has a thing for this June Thomas, and this is how he's wooing her.

Yeah my first thought was ectopic pregnancy. Thanks, ER
