Mary Ryan!  I vaguely remember when she died (a spoiler alert from a 1970s/80s soap opera there) and she was such a strong, beloved character that they had to bring her back in "widower jack talking to her ghost" form.

I agree with the point you make about everyone's backstory is worth hearing, and only then can we decide if it is interesting or sympathetic, and I also agree that Piper and her artisinal soaps and Jason Biggs's character and the whiny "hey lady" best friend are annoying.
