I think Basil is a sympathetic figure to those of us prone to irritation at every fucking happenstance.

See, I find Martha incredibly annoying. Obnoxiously so. Her cloying desperation is reason enough to make me dislike her, but there is also an undercurrent of shrewishness to her that solidifies that sentiment and makes me hope her story arc ends very painfully for her.
