So was the wire really supposed to be the reason why Garak acted so happy all the time? "

I started with Lot 49—it's not as good as GR (or Mason & Dixon), but it's, as you've mentioned, short, and gives you some idea of Pynchon's main themes. Probably the biggest difference is that Lot 49 is incredibly precise, and edited to the bone, while GR is messier and more expansive. You might also try Inherent

I'm not sure what help to give, but the fact that you label Lot 49's prose as "bland" suggests to me you need a lot of it.

THIS ONE CAN SEE.

There's no disconnect, but I'll always love that Genesis song about a guy running someone over with his car and then feeling really shitty about it. (We Can't Dance is a weird fucking album. Child abuse! Evangelical hypocrisy! Not dancing!)

Maybe I was being sarcastic, or maybe I just like Bernie Casey more than you. (He did star in Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Black.)

Sorry to let you down. Again, though, it's been a couple years since I reviewed TOS. Normally I check the Memory Alpha notes before doing my reviews, but I didn't have a chance last night. (And really, while this is all conceptually very cool, the episode doesn't make any effort to remind us who these guys used to be.

If I'd known they were characters from the original series, I would've mentioned it; it's been a couple years since I watched TOS, though, and Klingon names tend to blend together. While I wish I'd made the connection, and it probably would've changed some of my review, it's worth noting that the episode doesn't

We'll be on hiatus after season 2, to give me time to cover at least one series (and possibly two?) of Monty Python's Flying Circus. DS9 coverage will be back early in the fall, most likely.

This is a little late but I honestly do think she's deeply bothered by what she did. That's what I was trying to get at, in my overly mannered way; she _seems_ fine, but there are cracks, and those cracks indicate she almost certainly isn't. (Also, I was talking about this week's episode, not last week's. She didn't
