"If a story like this is making even this incredibly liberal comment space roll their eyes, then yes." - all that tells me is that even the AV Club commentariat have a blind spot when it comes to certain issues.

And like a Trump election victory isn't gonna happen

Honestly, I'm not even sure I'd go that far. If someone spoils their vote (or doesn't vote at all) because their political perspective is one of total detachment, then I disapprove. But if someone does those things because they fundamentally disagree with the voting system they've been handed and regard participation

Why are you pissed off at third-party voters? This is entirely on Trump voters

Oh look, the whole gang's here!

Ok, I apologise for my cruel comment, when I wrote it I thought it was a proportionate response to the hateful garbage you were coming out with. I am now convinced that either you have some sort of disorder or are a particularly unusual stripe of troll. If the former, please step away from the keyboard and reach out

Here's a true story about something that happened two minutes ago.

"Trump isn't a throwback to a past political order. He's a very new political phenomenon" - a cursory glance at how his campaign unfolded would prove you right, but it did occur to me reading your comment that, prior to parliamentary salaries being introduced, Westminster was basically run by plutocrats.

Doxing her family and colleagues is bad and the people who did that should feel bad. But there was nothing exceptional about her losing her job for something like that and I wish people would stop acting like there is (looking at you, Jon Ronson). Employers have had the ability to dismiss people for being reputational

Totally, he was like something out of gothic literature as he was, rattling around after you with those groans and grunts.

I remember in Tomb Raider II I invested significant time in trying to trap the butler in the meat freezer at Croft Manor. A more competent gamer could probably have done it in one go, but it took me a few tries to get the backwards jumps and tumbleturn right to beat him to the switch.

You're assuming way too much about my personal opinions and sensistivities. As far as the law goes, I'm a pretty hardline free speech supporter (eapecially by my native UK standards) and very much anti-state sponsored censorship of media, so your "upset and offended" flourish is really off the mark.

If I remember rightly, the namedrop came during an explanation of some algorithm that singles out people with exceptional skill sets, so there's no continuity issue with using Stephen Strange the super-surgeon as an example.

You literally wrote "Chick is actually superior in that way" in reference to his lack of direct moral legislating. As has been pointed out elsewhere in this thread, consistency really isn't your thing.

You can strip down any law and find an element of legislated morality. That's why I stressed that moral convictions should be buttressed with reason and rationality.

"Once you believe that your emotions should affect the lives of others, you are no better than Chick" - define your terms. I stated above why I think Chick is worse than his critics. When it comes to ethics, emotion is always going to be a component of opinion, as is the desire that people behave as you would have it.

I'm 99% sure the episode was partly inspired by this incident in the UK http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/u… and that influenced the youngness of the character.

This oh-so-brave conviction moralist preached bigotry against minority groups that remain vulnerable today. He believed people who didn't align with his brand of superstition were going to suffer eternal torment and he was glad of it. He was a much, much shittier person than the "godless authoritarians" you so vaguely

There was actually a really grim Chick tract parody where a boy is horribly abused by his fundamentalist father and eventually runs away from home. Right before he perishes, he consoles himself with the thought of going to Heaven. The final panel shows that he wound up in Hell for breaking the Fifth Commandment.
