Christ Almighty. It's not that different than finding out a guy you like gets down with terrible, worthless action movies. They're both harmless, fun things to do with friends/roommates.

There's a lot to like in the second half: Scarlett's drape dress, a wounded Ashley pretending to be drunk, Scarlett shooting the Yank deserter with Melanie providing sabre backup. I'd say it's only the last twenty minutes that really lose steam.

I got Mysteries of Lisbon from my local library. I'm sure it would have the others as well (or it would order them for you).

I really dug that first episode. I hate Thomas More more than just about anyone in church history, so it was great to see Cromwell make a nice little meal of him. Unexpectedly funny, too! BONUS: This episode got me incredibly excited to see Jonathan Pryce on GoT this Sunday.

I'm sorry, but that criticism makes no sense to me at all. First and most importantly, Carl Anderson absolutely kills it as Judas. Second, there doesn't need to be a second. See first.

Could not disagree more. Look at the outfits in "Superstar" for goodness' sake. All that white fringe makes the song 2x more awesome. Judas is so hot in that scene.

Waiting on Authority from the library right now. I absolutely loved Annihilation. From the beginning, I pictured Julianne Moore as the psychologist, and now I want a Moore-helmed movie more than anything.

I just finished the Mexican War part of Jean Edward Smith's Grant. So far, my favorite anecdote is this: when Grant wore his best dress uniform home from West Point, the neighborhood kids gave him so much grief that he vowed never to wear his dress uniform again, unless absolutely necessary. Later, he'd say of Gen.

I'm jealous that you managed to block the Black Eyed Peas from your memory. Please show me how this is achieved.

I can't remember a more delightful run-up to a Super Bowl. If Aaron Hernandez could somehow be convicted before COB today and Pete Carroll would mistakenly walk into traffic before the game, this would be the best sporting event of my life.

I am such a sucker for the "build-up song." Many Broadway musicals do it particularly well.

The Bleeding Heart Show. I checked this article only to confirm that it did not refer to the Bleeding Heart Show.

I am operating under the assumption that it's probably Carver, but doesn't ultimately matter who it was. Usually something like that would bother me, but this book is so damn good, I don't care.

Are you buying Emery Staines's story? The idea that SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Anna actually shot him and he didn't move or make a sound because he was holding the opium was so ludicrous that I just assumed it was a fabrication. I figured we'd get the real story later, and then we didn't. I tend to read the ending of

The second Harkness book is pretty fun because of the new setting. The third one is atrocious. Avoid like the plague.

The scenery alone would be worth it.

What's your favorite short story? I read The Haunting of Hill House last year and thought that she was great at mood and atmosphere but that the story was thin. She seems perfectly suited to short stories.

Finished The Luminaries last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a much bigger fan of the setup than the conclusion. The big set-pieces were so well done—the initial meeting in the hotel, the séance, and the trial were all superb. Eleanor Catton has joined my "read all new releases immediately" list.
I was inspired

76 entries and only two books? Yeesh. In 2015, I imagine that I'll be reading a lot of 2014 books that I missed and catching up on 2015 books in 2016. But I am definitely interested to check out "City on Fire," a first novel that sold for $2 million last year.

I'll bring the chairs!
