I also thought Erik Adams' comment about Rent being a "celebrate-life" musical was kind of weird.  Yes, that's what "La Boheme" and "Seasons of Love" are about, but the latter song comes after the incredible sadness of [SPOILERS].   It's about celebrating life while you have it, knowing that everything is fragile and

I just heard that she and Jeremy Jordan are doing a movie version of The Last Five Years, and I flipped out.

I didn't like the first few episodes, but I caught up with it during a weekend marathon, and it really is very clever.  Sarcastic and heartfelt at the same time!

Tarlov's on an MTV show that's incredibly popular with teenagers.  I don't know why they featured her opinion on music, but I imagine this headline might draw some members of a different demographic to the interview.

@avclub-4acd793a645f227d84ddb7c4c3f16603:disqus  I suspect we're going to end up agreeing to disagree on this one.  I think Liz Lemon is a really interesting character and I was glad to watch her antics and her romantic struggles.  I think Criss Chross ended up being a great romantic AND character foil for her.  I

@avclub-2586d0717b58d4f4383144ca1341d079:disqus  Parks is doing what no other network show is doing:  making a flawed female character the lead role, where her work and her friendships supercede her romantic relationships, and where her boyfriend-turned-husband supports her for that.

@avclub-f9612d06549ffe449e39e34fae8e2549:disqus  Which just raises the question, how is it profitable/supportable in Korea?  Perhaps due to a smaller market overall?

I didn't love it either, but yeah fashion/luxury marketers have been all over Mad Men as inspiration/hook for new consumers.

I'm only a little embarrassed to say that I would watch that.  I bet you could make a drinking game out of it.

If you want to have an actual conversation about it, I can explain why.  Or you can look a few threads above to see where other people have mentioned it.

@avclub-09a0aabb73e345f3b2ad865bc4fc1b28:disqus   Exactly!   Gatsby threw some crazy parties; I want to see how Luhrmann can make them thoroughly ridiculous.

@avclub-6d6285f92ba0ef734664f38cad2ee091:disqus Oh wow, good to know!  What a headache…

I agree, it sounds like the recent trend of celebrating Bad Ass Teen Girl Superheros, which is a fine trope, but not really who Juliet is.

I agree, but I also wanted to point out that the Nostalgia Chick rules.   I don't know if she's still doing stuff, but she did some really great feminist/pop culture analysis of Disney movies and early '90s cartoons.

@Juan_Carlo:disqus  Oh jeez, I could talk about The Tempest foreeeeever.

I adore the DiCaprio version, and every English teacher I've ever had loved it too.  So did my college Shakespeare professor, and he was kind of a big deal in academic circles.

@OhthePossibilities:disqus   I'm pretty sure there were boobs on display in She's The Man.  Not naked ones, but cleavage-baring ones.

I don't understand ABCFamily programming because it has some serious, thoughtful shows like Bunheads and Switched At Birth, some incredibly dopey soap operas like Pretty Little Liars and Secret Life (truly terrible television), your average "family-friendly movies"

@breezybubbles:disqus  But but…Teddy didn't want a conventional marriage!  Not until Jo broke his heart!

If only….
