In that case, how would his defense be different if he was really telling the truth though? It's ambiguous to me, because he says all the things that someone who was adamant and correct in their innocence would say.

There have also been a few of these easter eggs that have been discovered that Dan has said were never planned. If this was his idea I feel like it would have come up in the commentary. It's certainly possible wardrobe came up with it.

The crazy part is that this may not even be intentional on the part of the writers.

There's not really wrong way to look at this. It's all confusing.
